The Diary of Anne Frank

In the literary original, Anne Frank describes her life and everyday life in the back house of Amsterdam's Prinsengracht 263 with impressive powers of observation, cleverness and humor. Over a period of more than two years, she hid there with her family from the persecution of the National Socialists.

With "The Diary of Anne Frank," director Hans Steinbichler has remade the world-famous story. The screenplay is very closely based on the original diary and other personal records - of Anne Frank, her family and contemporary witnesses. The film thus gets very close to a girl who experiences the war, but who also makes plans for the future, argues with her parents and sister, and falls in love for the first time. And who, despite her hopeless situation and the fears associated with it, holds on to her hopes, longings and dreams. "The Diary of Anne Frank" is an extraordinary, very personal, moving and inspiring portrait of a girl, a family, her companions and a formative as well as dark time.

The 16-year-old actress Lea van Acken impresses as Anne Frank. She made her cinema debut in the film Kreuzweg, which won the Silver Bear at the 2014 Berlinale. She is joined by Martina Gedeck as Anne's mother Edith, Ulrich Noethen as her father Otto and Stella Kunkat as her sister Margot. As the "van Daans," the Franks' roommates in the back house, are André Jung as Hans van Daan, Margarita Broich as Petronella and Leonard Carow as Peter. Arthur Klemt plays Albert Dussel, who joins later, and Gerti Drassl plays Miep Gies, the helper of the backhouse residents; Stefan Merki and Maximilian Löwenstein, among others, also appear in other roles.
